Details: This historical 8 x 10 inch glossy photo of the U.S. Submarine S-5 is from a personal collection of hundreds of ships and shipwreck photos produced in the late 1970's and early 80's. All photos have been protected by glassine envelopes in a temperature/humidity controlled environment and they look as glossy as the day they were produced. The S-5 sank due to a Pilot Error when an induction valve was left open by mistake. This caused her Torpedo room to flood, dragging her nose down. Luckily the submarine's length was greater then the water depth and the crew started making a hole in her back side with a drill and saw blade. 40 hours later the crew members escaped from this hole. Its a beautiful wreck dive. Due to its depth, this wreck dive is recommended for advanced divers only. Excellent bottom topography. Even though the wreck appears fairly intact, the bridge and after tanks are destroyed and unrecognizable.
